HENRY Holland and Agyness Deyn closed the womenswear shows at London Fashion week yesterday with a fittingly upbeat show for the House of Holland label.

Making her first appearance of the week, Agyness opened the show to rapturous applause from the excitable audience who had queued around the block to attend. With the duo’s friends – Pixie, Peaches, Jaime, Grimmy – and family on the front row, we finally found the bouncy atmosphere that London is known for, yet had been lacking throughout the week’s unusually restrained and grown-up shows.

Inspired by Pantone and Dulux paint cards, we saw tailored jackets, skinny pants, tights, jumpsuits… all with the different tones of banded colour.

If you don’t like stripes you’re screwed, but after a week of samey trends like “biker” and “armour”, Holland should be praised for showing us something different. He certainly marches to the beat of his own drum, and for now, the crowd are dancing along.

Peter Pilotto developed his show around the big bang theory and the explosions of colour and texture reverberated around the makeshift walls of the tent. Rich prints in equally rich tones of navy, bordeaux and green were intricately beaded with gold and silver. Once again, we saw strong emphasis on the standout dress – something we clearly all need to invest in for next season. Stiff shoulders, draped silhouettes and unique styles are to be worn with gusto (and some thigh-high boots).

Nature and geology was also the message behind Josh Goot’s collection where “organic lines of stone” made for a minimal show of neutral colours on boyish, straight-up-and-down separates. It’s classic to the point of bland on the catwalk, but wearable and cleverly constructed.
